Smart Home Automation Systems (SHAS) are a revolutionary solution towards contemporary living, promoting ease, security, and efficiency. This paper discusses the design, development, and challenges of smart homes in terms of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, wireless communication technologies, and artificial intelligence. Key elements such as sensors, controllers, and user interfaces are discussed with communication protocols such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Major challenges such as interoperability, security risks, and standardization requirements are addressed. The research concludes by presenting future directions and the role of smart homes in creating sustainable, intelligent living spaces.
